October 15, 2017, the Simsbury Police Department hosted
its first benefit car and bike show.
The show helped to support a young child in need of a
heart and lung transplant. Vehicles of all makes and
models participated in the event including the vintage
police car group, “The Eastern Vintage Police Car
Association” (E.V.P.C.A.). Kids in attendance were
encouraged to vote for the “Coolest Cop Car”. The winner
of that police vehicle received a trophy for the honor.
Besides the many classic, special interest and vintage
vehicles, the event offered food, music and the sale of
“Cruisin’ with the Cops” T-shirts.

years ago, 19 men trained by al-Qaeda carried out a
coordinated terrorist attack on the United States
that had been planned for years. The attackers
simultaneously hijacked four large passenger
aircraft with the intention of crashing them into
major landmarks in the United States, inflicting as
much death and destruction as possible. Three of the
planes struck their targets; the fourth crashed into
a field in Pennsylvania. In a single day, these
deliberate acts of mass murder killed nearly 3,000
human beings from 57 countries. More than 400 of the
dead were first responders, including New York City
firefighters, police officers, and EMTs.
71 Police Officers were killed when the two World
Trade Center buildings collapsed in New York City.
Dozens more have passed away in the years following
2001 as the direct result of illnesses contracted
while working in the hazardous conditions
immediately following the attacks in New York. It
was one of the most-covered
media events of all time, and after sixteen years,
the images are still difficult to view. These
attacks and the global reaction to them have
profoundly shaped the world we live in.

Albertus Magnus College
in New Haven, Connecticut, sponsored their annual Criminal
Justice Camp again this year, and the Eastern Vintage
Police Car Association was proud to participate. “It’s a
lot of fun” said Ted
Stockmon, one of the E.V.P.C.A. members. “It’s great to
talk with these students and experience their enthusiasm
and eagerness when talking about their future in law enforcement. ”The camp
is designed to give students an overview of the various
and diverse opportunities available to a graduate of the
college’s criminal justice program. The program helps to
motivate students to pursue higher degrees in the law
enforcement field. “Law Enforcement isn’t like you see
on TV” explained one student. Crimes don’t get solved in
a half hour. We are learning that there is a system that
we have to follow in order to come up with the right
result and solve the crime” At this year’s event, Albertus hosted 109 high
school juniors and seniors from Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Delaware, and New York. The students were
encouraged to rotate through the various stations set up
by local and state law enforcement departments, federal
agencies, and various branches of the military to
discuss the many aspects of the law enforcement field.
